Wooden Shutter Repair & Restoration
We repair and restore traditional wooden shutters across London and the South East. These are the timber shutters built into older shops and houses — the panelled shutters that fold back into a box beside the window, and the solid external shutters on some shop fronts.
Many of these have been painted shut over the years, lost a hinge, or had a panel split or rot. In most cases they can be repaired rather than replaced. We free seized shutters, ease and re-hang them, repair the boxes and knuckle hinges, splice in new timber where a panel has gone, and repaint them to match the rest of the joinery.
What we do with wooden shutters
- Freeing and re-hanging shutters that have been painted or seized shut
- Repairing or replacing split panels, slats and stiles
- Repairs to shutter boxes, hinges and knuckle joints
- Splicing in new timber where the shutter has rotted
- Rubbing down and repainting
We work on Victorian and Edwardian panelled shutters and on older external timber shutters. Where part of a shutter is beyond saving we make new sections to match the original, rather than fitting something that does not suit the building.
